Driving Visitors to Your Business Blog: Article Marketing

The author, Janette Stoll is guest posting on Brett Duncan’s blog and shares valuable tips about the payoff for publishing your content on an article directory site like Ezine.  Article directory websites are popular sites and can be a good source of new readers for your unique content.

My favorites amongst Jeanette’s tips are:

Inform First to Brand Yourself: Your first goal with article marketing is to inform, educate and (fingers crossed) inspire readers to click over to your blog.  Selling your products and services must be goal number 2.  Inform first!

Good old Google Adwords: You’ve just got to master this tool.  No two ways about it.  Use Adwords to identify the top keywords, industry terms your customers and prospects use.

Author’s Call to Action: Janette reminds us of the value of the ‘Author’s resource box’ on article directory sites.  I like to think of this as your “call to action” because you have the opportunity to engage the article reader (who probably has not yet found your blog).  Offer them an enticing bit of fresh content with a catchy title.

Her Example: “FREE Report: The Painful Truth Why So Many Direct Sellers Fail”. It’s more intriguing than “get my free report.”

Stoll sums up the benefits of article marketing this way:

“The beauty of article marketing is that you write the article once and it’s indexed on search engines and continues to be searched and republished for a long time. You can also bundle your articles and turn into an ebook and give away on your blog.”

    Cynthia – first, thanks for the link. I had asked Janette to write that because I’m seriously article-marketing-stupid. I found her post to be a perfect summary, and an impetus for me to get my article-writing butt in gear.

    I know there are lots of naysayers to the current effectiveness of writing articles (vs., say, 18 months ago). But it seems those who are diligent in doing it are getting quite a bit out of it.

    Thanks to Brett who alerted me to this cool article from you … thank you! I actually think article marketing is under-utilized.

    For a new blog, your articles benefit a great deal from leveraging a higher ranked site such as Ezine (page rank 6) than you would from an article through your blog. If you craft a solid article with relevant and quality content and a great call to action, you’ll get more clicks to your site.
