Still Wondering About Business Blogging? A Must-Watch Video

If you’re still debating about taking the plunge into business blogging and online public relations, here’s a must-view web video.  A candid, un-staged conversation with the Warren Buffets of blogs and social media. My partner, Jim Butz, found this video discussion with A-list bloggers, Robert Scoble, (Scobelizer), Chris Pirillo, Andru Edwards and others.  The video is posted at Andru’s blog, The Bleeding Edge, this is his post about the video

Highlights from their discussion about creating awareness in the ‘new media’ world:

– New web tools—blogging, RSS, etc.—are making word of mouth hyper-efficient
– Major journalists use sites like TechMeme for story ideas
– Example:  Scoble told 15 bloggers at a dinner that he was leaving Microsoft and in 72 hours the story was in 150 news outlets—including WSJ, Economist, Reuters.
– Seagate, hard drive makers, recently used a Scoble Video blog to introduce Digital Audio Video Experience (D.A.V.E.™) technology. (According to company’s press release, product transforms the mobile phone experience.).  It received 26,000 views—no lighting, no makeup.  Just interested viewers.
– Its not just Walter Mossberg (noted tech columnist at WSJ)—its TechCrunch, Endgaget, etc. Now there are 140K bloggers with power to ‘get the word out’.  Use them!
– Users are now in charge.  Every user can be a blogger.

The video is about 70 minutes and took Jim a bit quite awhile to download on a DSL line.  The entire conversation is engaging and insightful.  But, if you only have 20 minutes, the first 20 minutes will be the best time investment you can make.   Confession: I watched it on Sunday night with a glass of chardonnay—right before my weekly dose of what-were-they-thinking-of in Washington D.C., a.k.a., CBS’ 60 Minutes.
